Getting oil on your parking brake shoes? Replacing this seal will keep the oil off your parking brake shoes unless the idler shaft main bearings are too loose or worn out. Check the in-out play on your transfer output shaft. If there is any noticeable play, you need to reset the pre-load on the main shaft or seal will continue to leak. Usually removing the smallest shim behind the speedometer housing will fix the problem. It’s the customers responsibility to verify pre-load and main shaft bearing condition.

 The Output seal rates a small 2 on the Butt-Pucker Meter. Not having a reliable parking brake is more of a nuisance than a safety thing unless you are forgetful enough to park on a steep hill and leave your Cruiser in neutral, knowing your parking brake is ka-put! This rates a 10 on the “Stupid Meter” but we don’t have one of those on our site.
